Just how common/rare is it to get chicken pox twice?

Almost impossible - unless their immune system is compromised in some way. What anyone can get several times, is shingles. Some of the Varicela Zoster virus, which causes chicken pox, gets trapped in the ganglia of the spinal nerves, and emerges in later life, as a painful rash along the pathway of that nerve.
