Looking for Canon Lens Recommendations?

I can’t afford it for Christmas but valentines day is just around the corner and I am eyeing up the Canon 40D DLSR for my woman. But I need to get her a lens or three. She is very interested in taking pictures of objects up close like leaves and bug excreta so I was thinking that one of the lenses should be able to handle extreme close up…I think that the lens type is called macro. I would also like to give her a telephoto lens and a regular 50mm. I know very little about lenses and I am looking for recommendations. If I could pick up a few lenses for under $2000 that would be perfect.
