What would remove stickiness from auto leather upholstery?

Someone put something on the leather interior of Mom's car which has turned sticky with heat & time. It turns whitish with "Simple Green" liquid cleaner, but still leaves some residue. Can anyone recommend another cleaner to get it off more completely?
