Sims 3 help me please! 10 points for best answer!?

I got the Sims 3 game when it came out. I had never played and people thought that it wasnt good for beginners and all. thats dumb. im good aat it but anyway the question im un sure of is this: they dont have animals in sims 3 like they do in sims 2, and it sucks. but they have goldfish. can your goldfish die if you dont feed it?
